Today I have decided to join the blog world. How many times have you read that statement at the start of someone's blog! I spend alot of time on the laptop so I feel it would be better to utilize it for something productive as opposed to just playing Pogo.com games all the time.
A little bit about myself to start. I'm 49 years old and I have been blessed beyond all measure by being married to the most wonderful woman in the world. Her name is Sandra and we have been married for 14 1/2 years. I have 2 sons from 2 previous marriages, Joshua(Josh) who is 25, and Adam who is 19. Josh is married to a beautiful young woman named Mindy and they have bought more joy into the world by having 2 beautiful girls named Heaven(6) and Serenity(4). They call us MeMaw and PePaw(cute huh?!?!?). I love having grandbabies because you can spoil them and shake him up until they get ready to spew and then hand them back to Mom and Dad and say adios!! We truly relish being able to spoil them beyond all reason.
4 years ago this past January I decided it was time to start getting my life in order because I knew I had made quite a few mistakes along the way. I woke up one Sunday morning and decided to go to church with my wife. She has been going to Christ Temple church in Winston Salem for 31 years. I told her not to make a big deal out of it. That morning I felt like the preacher was speaking directly at me. I went back a few more times and started reading A Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and it helped me realize a few things. One was we are basically put here on earth to praise God. Two was I needed to get baptized and I needed to do it sooner than later. I was baptized in Jesus' name in March of 2004. Keep in mind I am an alcholic. I started drinking at the tender age of 13. I was 44 when I got baptized. It was a tremendous effort to quit drinking. After receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost in May of that year I really felt the conviction about drinking. In August of 2004 I took the last drop of alchohol and I have been sober since. I usually tell peopl I took the one step program to quit drinking. One step to the altar. God has blessed me more than I could ever begin to tell people by taking that burden of alchohol off of me.
I now have the privelage of worshiping in one of the greatest churches in the world. I know it's not the church that gets you to heaven but I still am glad that we have such a wonderful place to worship. I'll tell more about this in future blogs but for now that's really all I have to say about that( Forrest Gump voice)
